Sea Water and Hair

Summer time is the perfect time to hit the beach! We protect our skin, but many don't protect the hair. Chlorine, sun and sea water can have damaging effects on your hair. I have covered chlorine and sun in the previous posts.  Sea water can cause drying damage to your hair. It creates a high saline environment. If the sea water is allowed to stay in the hair too long it can permeate the hair and cause drying. It can also clog the hair follicles and cause dry scalp. The best way to prevent damage is to rinse your hair, with clean water after exposure to sea water. Use a good shampoo and conditioner afterwards. Another method to prevent damage is to wet hair with clean water prior to going into the sea water. This way, less sea water will be absorbed into hair. As well you can always cover up with a scarf or hat. Keep your hair healthy! Give it some love with quality shampoos, conditioners and hair oils.
