Hair loss and illness

Normal hair loss is about 50 to100 hairs everyday. When the body is under stress, illness, or a hormone imbalance, excess hair loss may occur.
Illness or pregnancy can cause stress to your body. About 3-4 months after an illness or pregnancy, hair loss may be affected. Usually a large amount will start to fall out around this timeframe. This is a temporary hair loss caused by temporary stress to the body. Given time, your hair should grow back. However, it may be several months before you notice the re-growth.
Diseases such as lupus, autoimmune disorders or cancer can cause hair loss, since this is an early sign of the disease.
Along with illness, some medications can cause excess hair loss. Blood thinners, medication used for gout, blood pressure meds, meds used for heart problems, excess vitamin A, birth control, anti-depressants and chemo.
An imbalance of thyroid gland or male/female hormones can cause hair loss, such as menopause. Once these hormonal issues are corrected your hair that was lost should re-grow.
Women are said to age gracefully. However, when a woman loses her hair, she loses her confidence. Even if they don't show it or say it, a woman's beauty usually means alot to them. Wigs and a shorter hair style helps. However, it is just not the same as having your own hair.
Similar with some men. Some lose their hair and don't seem to care. Others try hair plugs, wigs, toupee, or hair color.
We all try to age gracefully. We can try hair products that claim to help with hair growth to keep our own hair. They will work on most people by stimulating the hair roots, however they don't work on everyone.
Personally I have found the Folichili Shampoo to work for me. Over several months it has given me fuller and longer hair. I love the results! This shampoo is available at http://www.respectedroots.com/

Many Benefits of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has many health benefits. It can be used for hair care, skin care, weight loss, increasing immunity and beneficial to maintaining a healthy body.
Coconut oil when used in cooking can be beneficial to your body. Coconut oil has lauric acid. Lauric acid is converted by the body in monolaurin which helps the body to deal with viruses, bacteria causing diseases, fungus and can help as an antioxidant. It is beneficial to the heart by helping to control high blood pressure, high cholesterol, strengthens the immune systems and it can assist with weight loss. It is easy for the body to digest and helps with absorption of nutrients. It also assists the thyroid and enzymatic function.
Coconut oil can also be used as a skin moisturizer. I may be used in massage or as a topical. It helps to delay wrinkles, delay sagging of skin, and helps with signs of premature aging. It helps in the treatment of psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, and helps speed up the healing process of bruising.
Coconut oil is also a natural nutrition for hair. It helps with control of lice and lice eggs. It gives a shiny complexion, re hydrates dry ends, and can help with healthy growth. When massaged into scalp, it helps the hair re-grow by providing essential proteins to the hair follicles. It offers natural nutrition to your hair.

Mamey Seed Oil and Hair Benefits

Mamey Seed Oil comes from a fruit tree called Mamey Sapote. The tree is native to the West Indies and northern South America.

The Mamey Sapote fruits a delicious nutritional fruit that is high in Vitamin A and C and calcium. The fruit is known to have a sweet pleasant taste. Originally these fruits were used for consumption. It was used as is, in fruit salad or frozen and made into smoothies, or ice cream. It can be made into a marmalade, jelly or used in pies.

The Mamey Seed Oil can be extracted from the ripened fruit. This oil has been found to be beneficial for the skin and scalp. Clinical studies have confirmed that this oil is effective in controlling hair loss caused by seborrheic dermatitis. The oil is particularly useful for natural curly hair that can become dry from over styling.

By applying a little Mamey Seed Oil to the scalp in the mornng, this helps in nourishing your hair from the root to help it look healthier. Mamey Seed Oil can also be used prior to a shower. Rub the oil all over scalp and leave on for about 15 minutes. Shampoo as usual. This helps strengthen and promote healthy hair growth from the roots.

Stress Management Techniques

My last blog was in reference to hair loss caused  by High stress levels. Our jobs, economy, family, friends, children and lives can be enjoyable, but can also be stressful! Going through stress for long periods can take a toll on your emotional and physical health.
We have all experienced stress. A definition of stress:  is what you feel when you think you have lost control of an event. How your body reacts with muscle and mental tension caused by an external factor.
Everyone reacts to stress differently. Some stress can be positive and enable you to accomplish something difficult. Other stress can be harmful and cause you to feel out of control and demoralized or frustrated.
A body under stress for long periods can become exhausted and can result in physical health being affected. Your immune system may lower and energy may feel drained. Your body can become more open to illnesses. Controlling the affect your body has while under stress should help your body's response to it.
Some stress management techniques, can begin with Identification of what is causing the stress. Identifying the stress is important because then you can sense if the stress is caused by something within your control. If it is external and out of your control, there may be nothing you can do to control it, so why stress over it. If it is in your control, then you can react or use stress management to help you stay under control.
Of course the perfect world is to avoid the people or events that cause stress. Since that is impossible, you can try to alter the stressor.
You can express yourself and be assertive. Let your thoughts be known. Be willing to compromise and adapt. Re focus on the positives and look at the big picture. Sometimes you may need to adjust your standards, and be accepting or forgiving. Sometimes this change in attitude helps relieve frustration which is a general part of stress.
Most of what has been mentioned is a mental way of dealing with stress. Positive mental attitude is the biggest element you can use to fight stress. Your body will feel better if you make time for fun relaxation. Taking a walk outdoors, running, gym, yoga, meditation, listening to music or any activity that helps you escape for awhile. Adopt a healthy lifestyle, and find the right element that helps relax you in a positive way.

Stress and Hair Loss

Hair Loss can be caused by many issues. One issue which is prevalent in our society is STRESS! Stress can hurt the body emotionally and physically. We have become accustomed to a certain amount of stress and most don't realize that it can be harmful. However, an ongoing high stress level can cause 3 types of hair loss. Alopecia areatea, Telogen effluvium, and Trichotillomania.
Alopecia areatea: Can be caused by a variety of factors, however high stress is included. With this condition, the white blood cells attack the hair follicle and stops the hair growth, causing the hair to fall out.
Telogen effluvium: Can be caused by emotional or physical stress. Stress causes the body to place larger than usual amount of hairs into a resting phase. Within a couple of months, the hairs at rest fall out while combing or washing your hair.
Trichotillomania: Can be caused by stress, anxiety, tension, fatigue, frustration or lonliness.  It is the urge to pull at your eyebrows, eyelashes, or hair from the scalp.

These conditions do not have to be permanent. Stress management can help with the hair loss. Also a scalp stimulating massage or shampoo, can also help with hair loss.

My story...

I started using the Folichili Shampoo in March 2011. My hair would not grow past shoulder length and was thinning along the top front. My entire life I have always had difficulty growing my hair past the shoulders. The shampoo was recommended by a friend. I even had doubts. I tried it and around 4 weeks I noticed my hair did look longer and slightly fuller. I continued using daily and noticed my hair began growing from about 1/4" or less per month to almost 1" per month. With my hair being curly it is hard to notice the results right away. However, my co-workers began noticing my hair growth around May. When my friends began asking me how to get shampoo, I found it hard to get in San Diego. I had to travel to Los Angeles or Mexico to purchase it. So. my friends inspired me to open my own internet business. Since August 2011, I have been creating Respected Roots with my 18 year old and my family. We created a business that has natural hair products at a low price. www.respectedroots.com

My daughter

The photo on the left was taken in March 2011. The photo on the right was taken in Nov 2011. My daughter started using the Folichili Shampoo in May 2011. Her hair has always grown extremely slowly. About 1/4" per month. After she started using the Folichili shampoo her hair growth went to approximately 1" per month. It has thickened up about 30%.  The Folichili shampoo is a hair shampoo that stimulates the scalp, with natural oils. It is available at www.respectedroots.com
